Paul Seimetz (born August 10, 1934 in Zell an der Mosel , † February 20, 2009 in Düren ) was a German soldier , heraldist , painter and illustrator.

Live and act

Paul Seimetz grew up in Zell, and from 1941 in Luxembourg . His parents were the tax officer Albert Seimetz and the housewife Johanna. The father later worked at the tax office in Mayen . His grandfather and great-grandfather worked as teachers at elementary schools in Saarland . Paul went to elementary school in Luxembourg. On September 1, 1944, the family was evacuated from Luxembourg and came to Mayen.

Seimetz produced his first artistic works as early as 1952. Two years later he concentrated on painting posters . In 1957 Seimetz applied to the Bundeswehr for the Air Force . From October 1, 1958 to March 14, 1959, he attended a preparatory course in Hamburg to prepare for the Abitur , which he then successfully passed.

In 1970 he studied heraldry and in 1978 he set up his studio in Erding near Munich . In 1972 he built his own home in St. Leon-Rot near Heidelberg and commuted between Erding and his family.

After many posts in the Bundeswehr, he retired as a lieutenant colonel on March 31, 1986 . After divorcing his wife, he moved to Hochkirchen . Here he built his artist studio in 1986, where he concentrated on landscape painting and graphics. At the European painting competition "Historic Buildings" he took 1st place.

In 1960 he married Margreta Schäfer for the first time. His second wife was Ruth, née Gilleßen, in 1982. The daughter Elke Seimetz is an art teacher, painter and illustrator. Seimetz had three daughters and a son from his first marriage.

He was appointed chief heraldist of the international order of Alexander by the chancellor consul B. John Zavrel. In 1987, he built his artist's studio for painting and graphics in Hochkirchen , where he concentrated on landscape painting and portraits . He also worked as an illustrator.

  • Silver medal of the Alexander Order Pour le Mérite on July 31, 1997
  • Honor disc of the Tyrolean Kaiserjäger in Innsbruck on May 12, 2001
