Ella von der Haide

Ella von der Haide (real name Isabella Haidle ; born February 22, 1974 in Munich , Bavaria ) is a German filmmaker , video artist , gardener and urban planner .

Life

After graduating from high school, Ella von der Haide completed training in gardening and landscaping in Munich from 1993–1995 . From 1995 to 1996 she studied landscape architecture at the College of Art in Edinburgh . This was followed by a degree in urban and regional planning at the Technical University of Berlin between 1996 and 2004 , which she completed with the documentary Another world is plantable! Completed Community Gardens in Buenos Aires .

From 2004-2014 she lived as a nomad without a permanent residence and traveled the world with her camera. In her documentary and experimental films she deals with social and ecological issues. Documentaries about community gardens and guerrilla gardening are central to her work . In addition to her work as a filmmaker, she is also active as a guerrilla gardener. It sees itself as queer - feminist activist.

In 2006 she received a prize for young scientists from the Gregor Louisoder Umweltstiftung for her film and her research on community gardens in Buenos Aires.

From 2014-2019 she was a research assistant in the field of open space planning, department 06 architecture, urban and landscape planning at the University of Kassel. She specializes in the use of audio-visual media to research queer-feminist open space design. And worked on a film about queer - feminist community gardens in North America.

Together with students, she was involved with foo doc topia and krisenKONTERKIOSK on the fringes of documenta 14 in 2017 .

In 2019, she headed the Urban-Rural Nutrition project in which students created three Auidowalks on the static nutrition system in Kassel.

In the summer of 2019 she was part of the delegation of the Edible City of Kassel with her films in the German Pavilion at the International Horticultural Exhibition in Beijing, China.

Ella von der Haide has been self-employed again since 2020 and is currently working on the film about queer - feminist community gardens in North America and an audio walk on urban nutrition in Munich-Giesing.
