At the level of the residential areas Sandbauer, Übelhör, Laienbauer, Umbrecht and Wolf, some of which are located in the Ravensburg district, between the wooded areas named Langholz and Banwald , lies the headwaters of the Ellbach.
The Ellwang fools guild Bawaldbohle got its name from this forest. All waters that arise south of the headwaters of the Ellbach flow into the Wurzacher Ried . After about a kilometer, the Ellbach reaches Ellwangen and makes a turn towards the northeast. Leaving Jakobsberg (692 m) on the right, the Ellbach joins after another three kilometers at Spindelwag with the Pfaffenrieder Bach coming from the right to the Rot, which flows into the Danube on its own way .
