Life

After graduating from school in Yerevan with a gold medal in 1949, Parsamjan studied at the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the State University of Yerevan (JGU) with a degree in 1954.

In 1954, Parsamjan and other students were selected by Viktor Hambarzumjan to work at the Bjurakan Observatory . 1957–1960 she completed her traineeship with Hambarzumjan. In 1963 she successfully defended her dissertation on colorimetry and polarimetry of some cometary nebulae for her doctorate as a candidate in physical-mathematical sciences.

Parsamjan's research focuses on the physics of comet and planetary nebulae , flickering stars , stars of the τ Tauri type , FUORs and Sub-FUORs. In 1982 she defended successfully her doctoral dissertation on Flackersterne in stellar aggregates for promotion to Doctor of Physics and Mathematics. In 1986 she became a senior researcher and in 2000 she became a senior researcher at the observatory.

Parsamjan was also engaged in the history of astronomy in ancient and medieval Armenia . In 1966 she had excavation finds from Mezamor the existence of rock art of the 29th-24th Century BC Chr. After which the sky stars and especially the Sirius show. She was one of the first to interpret Zorakarer as a megalithic astronomical observatory, which she examined in 1999.

In addition to her research activities, Parsamjan has been teaching at JGU since 1967 (appointment as professor in 1989 ). 1983–1987 she headed the Chair of Astronomy and Theoretical Physics at the Armenian State Pedagogical University in Yerevan. In 1992 she gave a guest lecture on unstable objects at the National Institute for Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics in Tonantzintla near Puebla de Zaragoza . It is a member of the International Astronomical Union (since 1976) and the European Astronomical Society (since 1990). In 2000 she was elected Corresponding Member of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences . In 2003 she received the Anania Shirakatsi Medal of the Republic of Armenia.
