Elmer Robinson

Elmer Edwin "Rob-Rob" Robinson (born October 3, 1894 in San Francisco , California , † June 9, 1982 in Paradise , California) was an American lawyer and politician of the Republican Party , who among other things was mayor between 1948 and 1956 from San Francisco was.

Life

Elmer Edwin Robinson, son of Ralph S. Robinson and Edyth Rahlves, began studying law at Kent College in San Francisco after completing school and was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1915 . After he initially as a lawyer worked, he worked 1919-1923 as District Attorney ( District Attorney ) in San Francisco. He then worked again as a lawyer and in 1935 was a judge at the Municipal Court of San Francisco. A short time later, he was appointed California High Court Justice for San Francisco (San Francisco County Superior Court ) and served there until 1948.

On January 8, 1948, "Rob-Rob" Robinson replaced his fellow party member Roger Lapham as Mayor of San Francisco and held this office for eight years until January 8, 1956, whereupon George Christopher , who also belonged to the Republican Party, was his successor. In August 1956 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention , the party convention of the Republican Party for the nomination of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates , at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.

He was also involved as a Freemason , with the Shriners and the Knights of Pythias . He was married twice. His first marriage to Doris Gould in 1916 resulted in his daughter Elizabeth Jane Robinson. His second marriage in 1944 to Ora Norris Martin remained childless. After his death he was buried in the Woodlawn Memorial Park in Colma .
