Else Luthmer

Else Luthmer (born May 23, 1880 in Frankfurt am Main ; † June 12, 1961 in Lindenfels ) was a German painter.

Life

Else Luthmer was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1880. She was a student of her father Ferdinand Luthmer and of Heinz Wetzel at the School of Applied Arts and Wilhelm Trübner at the Städelschule .

From 1899 she studied in Paris at the Académie Julian and the Académie Cormon . In 1909 she exhibited in the Salon des Indépendants . From 1904 she had numerous exhibitions in Germany. She settled in the Odenwald town of Lindenfels, where her parents built a villa on the Schlossberg in 1902 and used it as a summer house. Else Luthmer has lived there continuously since the 1940s.

Her work focused on still lifes and landscapes, especially from the Odenwald .

She was married to the magistrate Ernst Otto Schwabe. She had two sons, including the SPD politician Wolfgang Schwabe .
