Wolfgang Schwabe

Wolfgang Schwabe (born October 12, 1910 in Frankfurt am Main ; † January 4, 1978 in Dietzenbach ) was a German administrative officer and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Wolfgang Schwabe was a son of the magistrate Ernst Otto Schwabe and the painter Else Schwabe, geb. Luthmer . After graduating from primary school and attending the humanistic grammar schools in Wiesbaden and Frankfurt am Main, Schwabe completed an agricultural training course. He attended the agricultural engineering school, initially worked in agricultural machinery and later switched to the automotive industry. After he was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1940 , he took part in the Second World War as a soldier from 1941 to 1945 . At the end of the war he was taken prisoner, from which he was released that same year.

After his release from captivity, Schwabe joined the Hessian administrative service and was appointed head of the spa administration in Lindenfels . In 1950 he participated in the founding of the Hessian self-administration school "Freiherr-vom-Stein-Institut" in Lindenfels. In 1955/56 he worked as a personal advisor to the Hessian Minister of the Interior, Heinrich Schneider, and from 1957 to 1961 he was director of the Hessian State Center for Homeland Service. Here he was last appointed as government director. In addition, he was chairman of the State Transport Association of Hesse , Vice-President of the Association of German Spa and Tourism Experts and Vice-President of the German Tourism Association .

Political party

Schwabe joined the SPD, was chairman of the SPD district association Bergstrasse from 1954 to 1968 and chairman of the SPD sub-district Bergstrasse- Erbach in 1968/69 .

MP

Schwabe was a member of the Bergstrasse district council and was elected chairman of the district in 1952. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1961 until his death. From 1969 to 1976 he represented the constituency of Bergstrasse in parliament. In the remaining electoral terms he was drafted into the Bundestag via the Hesse state list. He was also a member of the European Parliament from 1970 until his death .

Public offices

Schwabe served as mayor of the city of Lindenfels from 1948 to 1960.
