Konrad Schacht (born October 17, 1943 in Gotha ) is a German social scientist and ministerial official . From 1991 to 1996 he headed the Hessian State Center for Political Education .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1963 at the Christian Rauch School in Bad Arolsen , he studied German and political science at the Philipps University in Marburg from 1963 to 1965 , after a break from 1967 to 1972 social and economic science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , where he graduated with a diploma. This was followed by a postgraduate degree at the University of Mannheim , from his thesis emerged, with which he in 1984 with Wolfgang Zapf and Max Kaase to Dr. phil. PhD .

From 1972 to 1977 Schacht conducted research at the Institute for Applied Social Science (infas) in Bonn - Bad Godesberg on social and educational issues. From 1976 to 1979 he was an advisor to the European Community on the action program against poverty and on the development of internationally comparable social indicators. From 1977 to 1979 he worked in the planning department of the Federal Chancellery in Bonn. Then he moved to the Hessian State Chancellery in Wiesbaden . 1980 to 1991 he was a lecturer for statistics and methods of empirical social research at the University of Mainz .

From 1991 to 1996 Schacht headed the Hessian State Center for Political Education (HLZ) in Wiesbaden. From 1996 to 2005 he was department head for culture - most recently as ministerial conductor - in the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art . In his role as a ministerial official, he was a jury member of the Hessian Monument Protection Prize (1997, 1998, 2000) and a member of the board of trustees of the German Academy for Language and Poetry .

Schacht published mainly in the field of industrial sociology and political sociology as well as on right-wing extremism and political education . In addition to book publications, he was the author of articles in anthologies and magazines such as Neue Gesellschaft / Frankfurter Hefte .

Schacht was the spokesman for the Socialist University Association (SHB). He was a member of the SPD , from which he left in 2018.
