Elsie Maurer (* 1938 , according to other, but not confirmed sources, 1940 , in Berlin ) is a German opera singer with a mezzo-soprano voice .

Life

Maurer received her first engagement at the Stadttheater Aachen in 1963 ; there she stayed for a season. From 1964 to 1967 she was engaged at the Stadttheater Pforzheim ; then in the season 1967/68 at the Essen Opera House .

In 1968 she moved to the Frankfurt Opera . Maurer was a permanent member of the ensemble there until the end of the 1999/00 season. Maurer sang the lyrical and dramatic mezzo-soprano roles there in the course of her career; later she also took on numerous smaller roles and character roles. In her first season in Frankfurt in November 1968 she sang Prince Orlofsky in the operetta Die Fledermaus ; her partner was Cesare Curzi as Eisenstein. In December 1968 the Marcellina followed for the first time in Mozart's opera Le nozze di Figaro . In the years that followed, she sang Mary in Der Fliegende Holländer , Meg Page in Verdi's Falstaff , Mamma Lucia in Cavalleria rusticana , Olga in Eugen Onegin , Marianne Leitmetzerin in Der Rosenkavalier and Berta in Der at the Frankfurt Opera Barber of Seville (last revived in 1998). She sang Mamma Lucia in June 1976 in a gala performance in Frankfurt, also alongside Martina Arroyo . In the 1991/92 season she took on the role of Annina in a new production of La Traviata by Axel Corti at the Frankfurt Opera . Maurer's last roles at the Frankfurt Opera included the small but dramaturgically not unimportant role of the companion Giovanna in Verdi's opera Rigoletto ; Maurer sang this role in April 2000 in her last official season at the Frankfurt Opera.

Maurer's other roles, which she sang mainly in guest performances outside Frankfurt, included: Ortrud in Lohengrin , Amneris in Aida , Magdalene in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg , Herodias in Salome , Preziosilla in Die Macht des Schicksals and the Countess Geschwitz in Lulu . Maurer was also considered a specialist in the interpretation of contemporary music; she took over the role of Stolzius' mother several times in the opera The Soldiers . In this role she made a guest appearance with the ensemble of the Frankfurt Opera in 1983 at the Wiener Festwochen . In 1988/89 she sang this role at the State Theater in Stuttgart and in subsequent guest performances in Moscow and Leningrad .

In January 1981 she made a guest appearance with the ensemble of the Frankfurter Opera at the Theater im Pfalzbau in Ludwigshafen ; In Mozart's opera The Marriage of Figaro , she was the "Marcelline who laboriously conceals her feminine charms". In the 1981/82 season she made her “amazingly confident role debut, designed with dramatic power and a lyrical heart” at the Städtebundtheater Hof as Fidelio- Leonore. She also performed at the Staatstheater Braunschweig , the Staatstheater Oldenburg , the Landestheater Detmold (December 1985, as Isolde in a gala performance by Tristan and Isolde ; partner: Spas Wenkoff ), at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern (1985/86 season, as the widow Leokadja Begbick in Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny ) and at the Nuremberg Opera House (1990/91, as Azucena in Il trovatore ). Foreign guest appearances have taken place at the Gran Teatre del Liceu (1969, as Countess Geschwitz), at the Teatro Verdi (1971, as Countess Geschwitz) and at the Vienna State Opera (1976, as Glascha in Katja Kabanowa ).

Maurer also appeared as a concert singer with an extensive repertoire. In June 1984 she was a guest singer on the television show One Will Win .
