Eluned Morgan, Baroness Morgan of Ely (born February 16, 1967 in Cardiff ) is a Welsh politician. She was a member of the European Parliament for the Labor Party from 1994 to 2009 and has been a member of the House of Lords since 2011 .

After graduating from Atlantic College , one of the United World Colleges , Eluned Morgan studied at Hull University . She works as a researcher for the S4C and the BBC . In 1994 she became the MEP for Mid & West Wales . At the age of 27, she was the youngest MP. In 1999 and 2004 she was re-elected as MP for Wales . She was u. a. Member of the Committee on Culture, Youth, Education and the Media, the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy , the Budgetary Control Committee and Parliament's rapporteur on the liberalization of the electricity and gas markets. Following her political career, she took on a position as head of “low carbon business development in Wales” at Scottish and Southern Energy .

On January 24, 2011, she was raised to Life Peeress with the title Baroness Morgan of Ely , of Ely in the City of Cardiff . This gave her a seat in the House of Lords , which she took on the Labor Party side. On January 26, 2011, it was introduced into the House of Lords , supported by the Baroness Royall of Blaisdon and the Baroness Kinnock of Holyhead . In reference to the Cardiffer suburb of Ely, where she grew up, she bears the title Baroness Morgan of Ely.

In the fall of 2018, Morgan, like Mark Drakeford and Vaughan Gething , applied to succeed Carwyn Jones as Welsh Labor Party leader and First Minister of Wales .
