occupation

Elvis is the title of a two-part film biography that retells the life of the King of Rock 'n' Roll , Elvis Presley , and focuses exclusively on the period between the ages of 18 and 33.

action

Elvis grows up with his parents Vernon and Gladys Presley as well as his grandmother in modest circumstances. Inspired by the music of the Afro-American population and encouraged by his girlfriend Dixie Locke, the 18-year-old plans to become a musician himself.

In the studios of Sun Records - under the guidance of the owner Sam Phillips - the first test recordings take place in Memphis . It quickly turns out that a lot of money can be made with Elvis' voice; soon thereafter there are also first appearances in front of an audience. But Phillips is soon hired out by Colonel Tom Parker as manager of Elvis, who takes the new rock star under his dominant wing and, over time, makes him known in the USA. Although the girls' hearts soon fly to the good-looking young man, his private life suffers as a result; even his friendship with Dixie falls apart.

His career seems to have come to an end when Elvis receives his draft for the US Army and has to serve his military service in Germany, among other places . In Bad Nauheim , the 24-year-old met Priscilla Beaulieu, who was ten years his junior, and fell in love with the schoolgirl. After returning to the United States, he took her to his home in California and married her when she was of legal age. Daughter Lisa Marie Presley emerges from the marriage.

But the success seems to go to Elvis' head. In addition to an affair with actress Ann-Margret, the star comes into contact with sleeping pills and drugs. He is also arrogant and often offends his friends and band colleagues.

The film has an open ending. Elvis, who in 1968 belongs to the "old iron" in the show business, is planning a European tour, which he, as it is called in an insert , never realizes. Even his planned separation from his manager Tom Parker does not go ahead. Elvis Presley died in 1977.
