Emanuel Cvjetićanin

Emanuel Cvjetićanin (born August 8, 1833 in Udbina , Austrian Empire , † 1919 in Zagreb , Kingdom of SHS ) was an Austro-Hungarian officer, most recently a field marshal lieutenant .

Life

Emanuel Cvjetićanin, baptized Manojlo , was born in Udbina Lika . At that time Lika belonged to the former Austria-Hungary . He came from an old Serbian family from the Serbian Bogunovici . The family settled in regions of northern Montenegro , Herzegovina and western Dalmatia .

During the war from 1878 to 1882, Cvjetićanin was the main organizer of the gendarmerie ( Strafuni ) in Sarajevo . He received numerous awards, including the Order of Maria Theresa and the title of baron . As Franz Joseph's first adjutant , he was behind the car of the heir to the throne, Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Este, in Sarajevo during the assassination attempt by Gavrilo Princip .

Alexander I offered him a post as field marshal , but he refused.

He was married to Sofia Medici -Cvjeticanin. His son Milan Cvjetićanin was an Austrian officer in the Serbian army under the command of Radomir Putnik .
