Emanuel Jirka Propper

Emanuel Jirka Propper (born January 12, 1863 in Hospozín , Bohemia ; † March 11, 1933 in Biel ) was a Swiss architect and technical college teacher .

life and work

Propper obtained the Matura at the II. German Austro-Hungarian State High School in Prague in 1884 . After completing his military service as a one-year volunteer , he studied architecture at the Austro-Hungarian Technical University in Prague, where he passed the second state examination in 1891. He then worked as an architect for the August Haag construction office in Biel. From 1893 to 1928 he taught at the Technikum Biel as the main teacher in the building department and was a member of the cantonal art antiquities commission.

As a pioneer of the Swiss homeland security , Propper u. a. the restoration of the guild house for "Waldleuten" and the town church of Biel, the Blanche Eglise in Neustadt, the churches in Büren an der Aare , and Rüti bei Büren , the reconstruction of the old town of Erlach and the rescue of the one preserved in a covered chapel in Pruntrut Frescoes and their transfer to the main church there. Propper also restored the collegiate church in St. Ursanne and received honorary citizenship from the parish of St. Ursanne .
