Emil Bettgenhäuser

Emil Bettgenhäuser (born October 31, 1906 in Flammersfeld / Westerwald ; † November 9, 1982 in Koblenz ) was a German SPD politician .

Life and work

After attending primary school , Bettgenhäuser worked as a miner from 1920 to 1930. Since 1921 he was involved in the miners' association . In the course of the economic crisis he became unemployed and did not find a job again until 1934 as a traveler (petroleum industry) and insurance inspector. (Deviatingly writes "The Representatives of the Free People" he was a miner until 1933 and the dismissal was for political reasons). From 1939 to 1945 he participated in the war. Before he entered the service of the SPD, he was director of the employment office in Koblenz in 1945/46 .

Political party

Bettgenhäuser joined the SPD in 1927. After the Second World War he participated in the reconstruction of the SPD in Koblenz and in 1946 became a full-time secretary for the Rhineland / Hesse / Nassau district (the state of Rhineland-Palatinate was not founded until later), later for the Rhineland-Koblenz- Trier district . From 1946 he was the license holder of the SPD newspaper Freiheit in Mainz and in the post-war period he was a member of the state committee of the Rhineland-Palatinate SPD.

MP

Bettgenhäuser was a member of the Advisory State Assembly of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1946/47 and deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group there. From 1947 until his resignation on September 30, 1949, he was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament . Here he was also deputy parliamentary group chairman and was a member of the Council of Elders, the Rules Committee, the Economic and Transport Committee and the Intermediate Committee.

He was a member of the German Bundestag from its first election in 1949 to 1961.

From 1959 to 1972 Bettgenhäuser was first mayor (i.e. deputy mayor) in Koblenz.
