Emil Blum

Emil Blum (born December 8, 1894 in Zurich ; † March 11, 1978 at Muri bei Bern ) was a Swiss Reformed theologian who played a leading role in the German Neuwerk movement .

Life

Emil Blum had contact with the religious-social movement around Hermann Kutter and Leonhard Ragaz while studying Protestant theology in Zurich and Basel . In 1919 he became pastor in Aigle VD . In 1922 he moved to the Habertshof settlement near Schlüchtern-Elm ( Hesse ), where he founded a folk high school, which he headed from 1924 to 1931. He then studied pedagogy in Frankfurt am Main (with Carl Mennicke and Paul Tillich ) and Bern. In 1934 he received his doctorate and in the same year took over a pastor's position at the Nydegg Church in Bern. In 1960 he retired.
