Emil Speidel

Karl Emil Speidel (born January 28, 1859 in Oberndorf am Neckar , † December 23, 1938 in Stuttgart ) was a German forest scientist .

Life

Emil Speidel was the son of the chief magistrate and President of the State Court Wilhelm von Speidel (1824-1893) and his wife Julie von Alberti.

Speidel studied forest sciences , mathematics and law at the University of Tübingen from 1877 to 1878 . This was followed by forestry studies at the Agriculture and Forestry Academy in Hohenheim from the winter semester 1878/1879 to the summer semester 1880 , which he interrupted for a study semester at the forestry department of the Royal Bavarian Technical University in Munich in the winter semester 1879/1880. After the two state forest service exams , he received his doctorate in December 1886 with the subject of yield studies in Forchen existed in Württemberg with Carl Julius Tuisko von Lorey , with whom he also habilitated in 1898 .

He was chief forestry officer in the Württemberg Forestry Directorate in Stuttgart and Deputy President of the Royal Württemberg Forestry Directorate in Stuttgart and from 1891 he was an associate professor at the University of Tübingen , where he had previously taught as a private lecturer in the fields of forest surveying and wood measurement since 1889. According to an entry in the journal for Württembergische Landesgeschichte from 1939, he also taught in Hohenheim. In 1902 he was promoted to forestry councilor and member of the forestry department of the Royal Württemberg Forestry Directorate. He had to give up his teaching position in Tübingen for this.

The two generals Wilhelm Speidel and Hans Speidel and a daughter emerged from the marriage with Amalie "Mali" von Klipstein . Speidel Family book is located in the department Hauptstaatsarchiv Stuttgart of the State Archive of Baden-Wuerttemberg .

Emil Speidel died after a short illness at the age of 79.
