Emil Sturm

Emil Sturm (born May 11, 1910 in Vienna ; † September 20, 1991 ) was an Austrian Evangelical Lutheran theologian . From 1966 to 1980 he was Superintendent of the Evangelical Superintendent of Salzburg and Tyrol .

Life

Emil Sturm attended a secondary school in Vienna . He first studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Vienna and in 1933 passed the teaching examination for mathematics and descriptive geometry. Then he began studying Protestant theology at the University of Vienna . In 1934, Sturm was examined as a religion teacher. For several years he taught religion as well as mathematics and descriptive geometry at the Maturaschule Dr. Roland. In 1938 he passed the pro candidatura exam and then worked in the private sector. Emil Sturm was married. The third child from this marriage, Herwig Sturm , born in 1942 , was later Bishop of the Evangelical Church AB in Austria . Emil Sturm took part in the Second World War from 1943 to 1945 and was briefly imprisoned. In autumn 1945 he completed his vicariate in Linz and passed the examen pro ministerio. He was ordained in 1946 . He came to Salzburg in 1948 to work as a pastor at the Christ Church .

When the Evangelical Superintendent of Salzburg and Tyrol was founded in 1966, Sturm was elected the first superintendent. Bishop Gerhard May introduced him to the new office on March 27, 1966. As part of this inauguration, the Roman Catholic Archbishop Andreas Rohracher officially asked for forgiveness for the expulsion of the Salzburg exiles . Emil Sturm retired on January 1st, 1980. His successor in the office of superintendent was Wolfgang Schmidt .
