Wolfgang Schmidt (Superintendent)
Wolfgang Schmidt (born November 1, 1929 in Vienna , † June 11, 2009 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian Evangelical Lutheran theologian .
Life
Wolfgang Schmidt had five siblings. His father died in 1943 at the Battle of Stalingrad . Schmidt studied Protestant theology at the University of Vienna and the University of Lund . He spent his vicariate in the Christ Church in Kapfenberg , the Trinity Church in Waiern and the Christ Church in Innsbruck . Schmidt then worked for a short time as pastor of the Protestant Church in Weißbriach . In 1955 he married and the couple had four children. From 1958 to 1980 Schmidt was pastor of the Johanneskirche in Kufstein and also worked as a military chaplain .
On January 1, 1981, Wolfgang Schmidt succeeded Emil Sturm as Superintendent of the Evangelical Superintendent of Salzburg and Tyrol . In the same year Schmidt opened the Salzburg state exhibition Reformation - Emigration at Goldegg Castle . Protestants in Salzburg about the Salzburg exiles . In 1987 he took part in an ecumenical service in Mayrhofen in memory of the Zillertal inclinants expelled 150 years earlier . In 1988 he celebrated an ecumenical service with Pope John Paul II in the Evangelical Christ Church in Salzburg.
Even after his retirement on August 31, 1995, Wolfgang Schmidt remained a member of the board of trustees of Diakoniewerk Gallneukirchen . His successor in the office of superintendent was Luise Müller . Schmidt died after a long illness.
