Emilio Lari (* 1939 in Rome , Italy ) is a film set photographer.

Career

In the 1950s he started a career as a rugby player and played in the Italian national team. He practiced photography as a hobby since his early youth.

In 1958 he applied to the set photographer Pierluigi Praturlon , became his assistant and worked a. a. on the set of yesterday, today and tomorrow by Vittorio De Sica . In 1962 he moved to the agency's UK headquarters in London and stayed there for two and a half years.

There his career began in 1964 with a bluff on the set of Richard Lester's A Hard Day's Night at Marylebone Station in London. On the set, the crew and actors waited for a photographer from The European magazine , mistaking Lari for the photographer who didn't correct the mistake, but played its role. The deception was discovered when the official photographer came, but subsequently led to an invitation to film Help! and to more than 40 years in the film business.

He has been involved in 140 European and Hollywood films as a photographer, from the cult hit Barbarella and Franco Zeffirelli's classic Romeo and Juliet to Francis Ford Coppola's godfather trilogy to Martin Scorsese's Like a Wild Bull . As the official film set photographer of big stars on the big screen, Lari's snapshots were taken with a sense of lightness that stems from his friendly relationships with the actors and directors he worked with. His portfolio includes shots of iconic characters in unperturbed situations, such as John Lennon , who messes around in a long dark wig, or Jane Fonda , who takes the director's chair to put her feet up in the breaks between shots. On the back of the chair is the name of Roger Vadim . Emilio Lari captured some of the most iconic off-screen moments from Marlon Brando , Brigitte Bardot , Robert De Niro and Marlene Dietrich .

In the 80s he continued his career in America. In the 90s he became a trusted photographer for the Vanzinas , for whom he created several posters. Emilio Lari collaborated with the cameraman and director Giovanni Galasso on an autobiographical documentary that was released in 2017 under the title Uno spietato professionista - L'incredibile vita di Emilio Lari ( A ruthless professional - The incredible life of Emilio Lari ).

In September 1973 he married Sydne Rome . This marriage failed. He is a second married and lives with his wife in Rome.
