Emmanuel-Félicité de Durfort (born September 19, 1715 , † September 6, 1789 in Versailles ) was a French military, politician and diplomat. From 1733 (after his father's resignation) was the 4th Duc de Duras, from 1775 Marshal of France and member of the Académie française .

Life

Emmanuel-Felicité de Durfort was the son of Jean-Baptiste de Durfort , 3rd Duc de Duras, Comte de Rauzan, Baron de Pujols, de Landrouet et de Cypressac, Seigneur de Chitain, d'Urbize, de Cambert etc., Marshal of France, and Marie-Angélique-Victoire de Bournonville. In May 1733 he became the 4th Duc de Duras through his father's resignation.

His first military experience made in Italy as aide-de-camp of Claude-Louis-Hector de Villars († June 16, 1734), from whom he was promoted on March 10, 1734 to colonel of an infantry regiment named after him. In 1766 he became Baron de Castelnau-du-Medoc. On February 2, 1767 he was made Knight of the Order of the Holy Spirit , and in 1772 he was accepted into the Spanish branch of the Order of the Golden Fleece (No. 776). He was governor of Franche-Comté and premier gentilhomme de la Chambre du roi .

In August / September 1768 he was given the task of clearing up the " La Chalotais affair" as the successor to the resigned Duc d'Aiguillon in Brittany . In March 1775 he was appointed Marshal of France. On May 2, 1775 he was elected a member of the Académie française (Fauteuil 34).

On May 1, 1733 he married Charlotte-Antoinette de la Porte-Mazarin (* March 24, 1718, † September 6, 1735), the only daughter and presumptive heiress of Guy-Jules-Paul de La Porte , Duc de la Meilleraye et de Mazarin ( La Porte House ), and Louise-Françoise de Rohan-Soubise; she died before her father.

Emmanuel-Félicité de Durfort and Charlotte Antoinette de la Porte-Mazarin had a daughter:

His second marriage was in June 1736 with Louise-Françoise-Maclovie-Céleste de Coëtquen, * 1724, † January 2, 1802, heir daughter of Marie Auguste, Marquis de Coëtquen (one of the "spirits of Combourg Castle " mentioned by Châteaubriand ), and NN de Châteaubriand.
