Emmanuel Izuagha Ejike (born February 2, 1980 ) is a retired Nigerian soccer player . The central defender played for Nigeria's senior team during his career.

Club career

Izuagha came from his native Nigeria in 1997 to the Hessian club Eintracht Frankfurt , where he played for three years in the amateur team. In the summer of 2000 Izuagha moved to the second division Chemnitzer FC for 100,000 marks . The services of Izuagha did not meet the demands of the people in charge of the Chemnitz association. He was only substituted on September 24, 2000 (6th matchday) in the 1: 4 defeat against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the 72nd minute for Marco Dittgen . In October 2000, Izuagha completed a trial training session with the regional division SV Wehen and was then loaned to the club. During labor, the center-back became a pillar of the club and was also loaned out by labor the following season. For the 2002/03 season Izuagha moved to the second division relegated 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 , but was not allowed to play there and therefore returned to Wehen in September 2002, where he played from then on. By September 2003, the central defender had a total of 67 missions for the regional league club before he was thrown out of the team by the club's management because of indiscipline and left the club.

From 2004 to 2007 Izuagha played in the Vietnamese V-League with being Tâm Long An . During this time, the club won two national championships, once the national cup and once the Supercup. In the spring of 2007 he appeared in Frankfurt at the regional division Rot-Weiss Frankfurt and initially only trained there to keep himself fit. After the club had several failures in defense, Izuagha was officially included in the squad in May 2007, but could not meet the expectations placed in him and was not used. For the 2007/08 season he was obliged by the league club SV Wilhelmshaven , where he tore a muscle fiber after the third matchday and did not come to any further missions. After the season he turned his back on Wilhelmshaven and was hired for the second time in V-League at Đồng Tâm Long An. Inzuagha returned after six months in Vietnam and played two seasons in the Frankfurt West group league for DJK Bad Homburg before ending his career in the summer of 2012.

National team

Izuagha was one of Nigeria's most hopeful talents and played as a captain in his country's U17 . He won the UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup with the team , which also led to the commitment by Eintracht Frankfurt.

At the U20 African Championship in 1999, he and his teammates reached the final (0-1 against Ghana). The Ghanaian newspaper The Daily Graphic named Izuagha as the best central defender of the tournament. An injury prevented the defensive talent, who was already being traded at home as the successor to long-time national player Stephen Keshi , from participating in the 1999 junior soccer world championship in his own country.

In 2003 he came to his only appearance for the senior national team of Nigeria . In a friendly against Japan at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium , Nigeria lost 3-0 and Izuagha showed a poor performance, which he later attributed to the fact that his mother only died two days before the game.

In the same year he took part in the Pan-African Games with the Olympic team (U23) of his country. He scored two goals during the tournament and won the silver medal with the team after losing 2-0 to Cameroon in the final. There was a scandal before the final when a total of four players, including Izuagha, refused to play in the game. Only after paying a special bonus did the players accrue, but were then banned by the Nigerian Association for a year. Since then, Emmanuel Izuagha has not been appointed to a country selection.

Personal

Izuagha is a cousin of the former 2nd Bundesliga player Henry Nwosu and stepcousin of the former Super Eagles ( Nigerian national soccer team ) team captain Nwankwo Kanu .
