Marco Dittgen (born August 19, 1974 in Saarbrücken ) is a German football player .

Athletic career

Marco Dittgen, who was born in Saarbrücken and grew up in nearby Püttlingen , comes from the youth department of FV 08 Püttlingen . In 1991 the offensive player moved to the youth division of 1. FC Kaiserslautern , with whom he was German A youth champion in 1991/92 . In 1993 he made the leap into the professional squad of the Palatinate, but did not get beyond sporadic assignments with the then runner-up. In 1994 Dittgen moved to Dynamo Dresden , but had to relegate with the Saxons from the Bundesliga . For the SGD he scored his only three goals in the top German league.

In 1995 he went to Switzerland to join BSC Young Boys . As the bottom of the table, he missed the final round with the National League A club and then entered the promotion or relegation round. This was completed as first in the table, which Dittgen had a share with 8 goals in 12 missions. He had already scored five goals in the first half of the year. After a season in Bern, he joined FC St. Gallen , with whom he successfully qualified for the final round. Another year later he signed a contract with the Italian third division club US Palermo . The season ended with 14th place, which the team had to compete in play-out games that were successfully contested. The Italians remember him less for his sporting achievements: On the one hand, he sustained a curious injury: a rose thorn caught his eye while working in the garden. On the other hand, the transfer from St. Gallen to Palermo was not handled correctly. In the case, FIFA got involved.

Palermo was his last stay abroad, in Germany he played in 1998/99 at VfB Leipzig in the Regionalliga Nordost. This was followed by activities at the then second division clubs Chemnitzer FC and SV Waldhof Mannheim . With Chemnitz he had success at least in the first year: He was the best internal goalscorer with 10 goals and the team that had been promoted from the Regionalliga achieved relegation. The second year ended with relegation as bottom of the table. However, Dittgen moved to Mannheim during the winter break. There he was only used as a "joker" and Dittgen later described this time as the worst of his career. 2001/02 he played for Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the regional league.

After the end of his engagement in Erfurt, he initially kept fit with his home club in Püttlingen and then joined SV Röchling Völklingen in the Oberliga Südwest . Despite 14 goals from Dittgen, the team was relegated to the association league. Dittgen, who at that time had not yet finished professional football, initially remained loyal to the club. There was no return to a higher class club. Since then he has competed for various Saarland clubs; since 2018 he has been playing for SV Klarenthal in the district league A Warndt .
