Emmy Sonntag-Uhl

Emmy Sonntag-Uhl (born December 31, 1860 in Graz , † December 1913 in Breslau ) was an Austrian singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Sonntag-Uhl received her vocal training at the music school of the Academic Music Association in her hometown. With the support of her teachers, she later became a student of the chamber singer Jenny Bürde-Ney in Dresden .

During the Franco-Prussian War , Sonntag-Uhl was hired several times for appearances to support the troops and in 1881 she was able to successfully play the role of "Azucena" at the royal Hiofoper debut. In 1882/83 she was engaged at the city theater in Nuremberg and from there she went to the city ​​theater in Königsberg until 1885 .

In 1885, Sonntag-Uhl moved to the city theater in Breslau and stayed there until 1889. From there she embarked on an almost one-year tour to and through the USA , where she achieved great success at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, among others . In spring 1891 she returned to Europe and was under contract at the Deutsche Oper in Rotterdam until 1892 .

In 1892, Sonntag-Uhl returned to Breslau and was a member of the ensemble there for two years. From the autumn of 1894 further smaller guest tours followed. Around 1900 she retired from the stage and worked as a singing teacher in Breslau. She died at the age of 53 in December 1913 in Breslau, where she was also buried.
