Emory (born August 14 in Hamburg ; real name Michael Emory Nortey ) is a German contemporary R&B singer of Ghanaian descent. He gained fame through working with rapper Kay One .

Life

Michael Emory Nortey grew up in Hamburg as the son of West African parents. In 2006 Norteys sang for the first time at a school concert. His singing was very well received, so he continued to sing. He then recorded a song with his friend and producer Sinch. Norteys then signed with Illos Label Tracksetters .

In 2007 the singles She is ... and Oh my God were released. This was followed by guest appearances on Afrob , Samy Deluxe , Separate , Ali A $ and Sprachtot . In 2011 Emory released his first EP 0711 . The great success only came through four guest contributions on the Kay One album Prince of Belvedair . Kay One then took him on his tour.

In 2013 Kay One released the album Rich Kidz , which reached number 1 in the German charts. On this album Emory was again represented with numerous guest appearances. As a result, the previously released single Keep Calm (Fuck U) became a mainstream success. It reached number 11 in the German single charts and stayed in the top 100 for 17 weeks. In addition, Emory & Kay One reached number 52 in the single charts with the song I hate it to love you . With Keep Calm (Fuck You) Kay One and Emory appeared in the hit telecast Fernsehgarten on what the German hip-hop scene was ridiculed by parts.

The close cooperation with Kay One meant that Emory got several tips during the argument with Kay One and was also mentioned in the diss track Life and Death of Kenneth Glöckler . Emory himself tries to stay out of the argument.
