The life and death of Kenneth Glöckler is a disconnect between the German rapper Bushido and his former companion, the rapper Prince Kay One . It was released as a music video on November 22, 2013 on YouTube .

background

Kay One was under contract with Bushido's record company ersguterjunge between 2007 and 2012 . During this time he released his first two solo albums, Kenneth alone zu Haus and Prince of Belvedair, as well as Berlin's Most Wanted, recorded together with Bushido and Fler . At the same time he accompanied Bushido several times as a backup rapper on tour . In April 2012 Bushido and Kay One parted ways. Kay One terminated the contract with ersguterjunge from Stuttgart. As a trigger for the rift between the two parties, the rap media initially identified a prior blocking of several Kay One videos on Bushido's YouTube channel. Bushido had also wanted to secure the trademark rights to Kay One's stage name in April 2012 , which is why Kay One published his subsequent publications under the pseudonym "Prince Kay One".

On August 1, 2013, Kay One released the song Nothing but Truth , in which he commented on his separation from Bushido and ersguterjunge. When at the same time in the media, especially the star Bushido's involvement with the Abou-Chaker-Clan was discussed critically, Kay One commented both in the print edition of the magazine and in the edition of the RTL program Stern TV broadcast on October 9, 2013 , by reiterating the accusation that the large Abou Chaker family had mafia- like structures and calling Bushido their slaves. Kay One claimed to have written Bushido's texts for years. Since Kay One to testify in court against the same time the Berlin extended family, he became the Berlin Criminal Police Agency in personal protection taken.

At the end of October 2013, Bushido, who had previously verbally attacked Kay One on his controversial stanza of the subsequently indexed Shindy song Stress for no reason , announced a nine-minute disstrack on the social networks Twitter and Instagram . On November 14, 2013, a ten-minute info video was uploaded to the song, in which Bushido appealed to Kay One's manhood , among other things , and asked him not to have his lawyers block the YouTube video about Kenneth Glöckler's life and death . After Bushido had expressed himself disparagingly in this video via the news portals Stern TV , Der Spiegel , Bild , N24 and RTL as well as BZ , one day later the Bild newspaper reacted to the information video and titled it as a “10 minute lame mob attack "In view of its length," at least half of the audience had already popped the front of the keyboard from tiredness ".

content

The text deals with the relationship between the artists Bushido and Kay One. After responding to Kay Ones' allegations during his Stern TV appearance, Bushido describes him as a liar who broke a " code of honor ". Bushido also accuses Kay One of being “not interesting” for the media without his person. On the basis of a biographical processing of the artistic career of Kay One, Bushido then wants to work out how he behaved disloyally to his musical companions such as his former rap group Chablife and in particular their member Jaysus , the then Royal Bunker boss Marcus Staiger and Eko Fresh . The life and death of Kenneth Glöckler are also dedicated to these people .

Kay One's financial circumstances during his time at ersguterjunge are also discussed. According to Bushido's portrayal, Kay One “lived like a king” and earned at least 400,000 euros with his album Prince of Belvedair , but did not give any of it to the rapper Shindy , who is Bushido as Kay One's ghostwriter . He himself had previously paid off Kay One's mother's debts. Kay One's relationship with Arafat Abou-Chaker (who plays himself in the video) and his family members is also a central theme of the title.

In addition to Kay One himself, his stepfather and manager, Oliver Brodowski, as well as the singer Emory , who often works with Kay One, is criticized in the life and death of Kenneth Glöckler . The German-Italian entertainer Cosimo Citiolo is described by Bushido as a "clown". Bushido also claims that Kay One raped a singer from the band Bisou .

The song also contains pop cultural allusions to the American comedy film Malibu's Most Wanted , the American rapper Nelly , Kay Ones and Bushido's YouTube hit Style & das Geld , the Kay One songs Champagne for the Pain and VIP , den German fashion designer Harald Glööckler , the entrepreneur and television actor Robert Geiss as well as the culcha candela singer Mateo Jaschik , who was Kay One's predecessor as Germany-seeks-the-superstar juror.

The video received enormous attention within a few hours. Numerous rappers commented on the Disstrack and the video received a million views in seven hours and over two million views in 24 hours. One month after its publication, the YouTube counter exceeded 10 million views, and by summer 2015 it had been viewed 30 million times.

At the beginning a Turkish actor who plays Kay One is shown entering a room with a prostitute . This switches on the television screen on which Bushido can be seen. A short time later, two men come in through the door and knock Kay One down, stun and kidnap him. Then Bushido begins to perform his rap. In the background you can see a pure white surface or burning wooden statues in a junkyard . Excerpts from music videos or other videos are shown. The video ends with the Kay-One-Double being photographed several times with a picture newspaper and finally his shooting is indicated.

reception

criticism

The media reactions to the life and death of Kenneth Glöckler were overall positive. The online editorial team of Vice magazine, which in the same year strongly criticized the Bushido and Shindy song Stress for no reason , praised the lyrics of the song, which was told “stringently, understandably and comprehensibly” and judged: “Of course this is one very one-sided portrayal, but no matter how you feel about Bushido, Kay One comes across as the biggest asshole in the world. ” With regard to the alleged goal of the artist to “ destroy ” the addressee of the Disstrack , the Vice suspected that this was “ as a rapper “It may have been a success, but Kay Ones and the broadcaster RTL Television, which employs him, would still benefit from the attention given by the song.

The world called the actual song "epic" and certified Bushido "under rap technical aspects" as "unusually good quality for his circumstances", but questioned the suitability of the song for scandal. The cinematic execution of an opponent is nothing unusual in the hip-hop scene, said the Tagesspiegel . The website 16bars.de put the life and death of Kenneth Glöckler in a row with other German disstracks such as Das Richter ( Kool Savas ), Samy De Bitch ( Azad ), Die Abrechnung ( Eko Fresh ) or Fanpost ( Kollegah ). The e-zine laut.de meanwhile noted that the song “does not necessarily bring new revelations to light”.

One day after the publication of the ten-minute preliminary video in which the diss was announced, the Bildzeitung “presented” Bushido with a fictitious prize for the “most boring rabble video” on November 15, 2013.

At one point in the track, Bushido Kay One claims to have had oral sex with transsexual entertainer Lorielle London . Bild.de asked about this and London replied: “This is absolute nonsense, I only saw him once on the red carpet at the time. It's a bad joke. "

Reactions from other artists

A few hours after the publication of the Disstrack, Kay One commented on the life and death of Kenneth Glöckler on Facebook . He called Bushido a " hate preacher " and accused him of lying. He also announced that he would no longer want to comment on the subject in the future, which he did a year later with the publication of a new disc " Judgment Day ". Emory was disappointed with the "disrespectful" insults from rapper Bushido.

The artists mentioned in the song Eko Fresh , Jaysus and the former Overground member Akay Kayed , as well as Marcus Staiger, confirmed Bushido's statements made in the song. The rappers Sido , Sinan-G , JokA , Bass Sultan Hengzt , MoTrip , Elmo , Jalil and Basti from Trailerpark said they were positive about the song. As part of a report from the website 16bars.de recorded at the Mile of Style Festival 2013 , the rapper Weekend , who also stated that he was otherwise “really not a Bushido fan”, described the life and death of Kenneth Glöckler as the highlight of 2013. Also King Orgasmus One found the song to be positive in this context.
