Akay (born January 11, 1983 in Essen ), real name Ahmed Kayed , is a German pop, R'n'B, hip-hop and dance singer , MC, lyricist / composer, event organizer and owner / manager of various Media company. He has also appeared under the pseudonym 2529 .

Life

Akay was born in January 1983 to Lebanese parents. After school, Akay trained as a tour guide and worked as a performer in discos and clubs in Ibiza.

In 2001 Akay took part in the casting of "Popact 2001" with 6500 participants and made it into the winning band New Level, which soon broke up after their debut single Tell Me . In 2004 the single was re-released after Akay's victory in Popstars.

Overground

After he had applied for Popstars - Das Duell in 2003 , he won the third season of the ProSieben casting show with the group Overground against the female competition, the Preluders . Overground became temporarily the most successful German boy band. The band had several top 10 hits, released two albums and worked among other things. a. with artists like Montell Jordan . After the band took a creative break in 2007, it turned out to be a final breakup in 2008.

Solo career

After the dissolution of Overground, Akay, like his colleagues Ken Miyao and Meiko Reissmann , began to work on his solo career.

He has also been the host of the “Soulsuga” parties since 2004, which are attended by German hip-hop stars such as Bushido , Sido , Eko Fresh and Manuellsen .

In 2007 Akay was signed by the " edel music company " and released his debut single That's the Way (I Like It) on May 2, 2008 under the pseudonym 2529. That's the Way (I Like It) is the title track for the Urmel movie - full in motion . The title was followed by the second single Sexual Healing , a collaboration with American rapper Rah Digga . Both songs are extracts from the debut album Comfort Zone . The album was produced by Mousse T. and Jan "VD3" van der Toorn.

In June 2016 Akay took part in the song Unique by the Swiss DJ Da-Nos, the official song for the Zurich Street Parade .

In February 2017 Akay released the song Sehnsucht together with the German rapper MC Bilal . The song was also released on MC Bilal's album Alles in his Zeit , which reached the top 10 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In April 2017, Akay took part in the live broadcast The great ProSieben Völkerball Championship .

In June 2017 there was a collaboration between Akay, Eko Fresh and the band The Outlawz ( 2Pac ), who together recorded the German soundtrack for the movie about rapper Tupac Shakur All Eyez On Me , which is distributed by Constantin Film .

Akay was signed to Dutch DJ company Vocal Kitchen in July 2017 with studios in Amsterdam, Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York. In autumn 2017 the first co-writing sessions followed in Amsterdam with Allen Eshujis and Curtis Richa.

Companies

Akay established his "SoulSuga" series of events from 2004 into one of the largest black music parties in Germany.

In 2014 Akay founded the artist & media agency Suga Agency together with YouTuber Alberto . Since 2016, the agency has been run solely by Akay. His artists include Kollegah , Farid Bang , Momonews, Simon Desue , Spongebozz , Carmen Mercedes, Eko Fresh , Shayan Garcia , Cheng Loew, KC Rebell , Summer Cem , Natasha Kimberly and many others.

In 2016, Akay also founded the video production company HNRY BNNTT.

In 2017 Akay took over the personal management of the German rapper Kollegah .

In 2018 Akay opened the SOULSUGA LOUNGE in Croatia / Novalja
