Rich Kidz is the third solo album by German rapper Kay One . It was released on October 25, 2013 through his own label AP Allstars and distributed with the help of Embassy of Music .
title
The album was originally supposed to be released under the title VIP , the title of the first single . The album title was then changed to Rich Kidz (English for: " Rich children "). As Kay One said in a video message published on YouTube , the album title was chosen "very quickly". Looking at a hotel in Zurich is said to have inspired him : “I was in front of the […] most expensive hotel in Zurich. […] And there I was standing in front of it […] and I thought, […] that looks so pompous ”.

"We make money. Money we're spending. Blackstar, Kay One, Rich Kidz, Anthem. And there are no limits. Being rich means giving presents to chicks. Cancel any flight and I won't inherit it. Timati, AP Millionair's Clique. Anyone who meets me in the club, when I'm drunk, says: "This is no longer funny". I push myself, love to freak out, to applaud women. "
- Personal songs
The album includes the profound song I Hate To Love You . This is about a past relationship with a female person who is addressed as "you".
"I miss it. What do I care about the bitches? All that luxury. Fuck the champagne, fuck the parties, the money. I was thankful to meet you. That was fate on the pageant. When I saw you. And I really thought that would fit with us. We are grown up. So tell me the reason, honey. "
- Songs that glorify violence
The song Helal Money is also on the album. In this song, the rapper Farid Bang calls for violence against the British pop singer Jay Khan .
“I'm coming with Kay One. Who is Jay Khan? Fucking for 10 hours is what I can do on Jay. After I knock the bastard out, the fish is in the paper like a mafia message. Smack him out. Then he wakes up again, sees the teeth on the table and says: "Didn't I have them in my mouth?" "

In the music media, Rich Kidz received mostly negative reviews. At Rap.de, Rich Kidz was awarded three out of ten stars. The editor Phil Weichert titled the publication as "plastic pop without content". The album's intro and the song Keep Calm (Fuck U) have been criticized most: “Even the intro does not suggest anything good. After a short retrospective of Kay One's school days and the usual "I-don't-want-to-go-to-school, I-get-rich-rapper" gibberish, the track "Keep Calm", which has already been released as a video and single, follows straight the way to the next 60 minutes of plastic pop with hollow phrases and rhymes on elementary school level English fourth grade ”. On the other hand, the following song Pushen is highlighted : “Thank God" Rich Kidz "lets the listener breathe deeply after this catastrophic introduction and offers with the following track" Push ", then really something like an entertaining track. The 3:17 minutes long rumgeprotze is not really innovative, but the catchy beat of Juh-Dee and the powerful voice of Kay make for a solid piece of music ”. In addition, the editor criticizes Kay One's lack of arrogance and technology: “You look in vain for the old arrogance and above all its once outstanding technology by Kay on" Rich Kidz ". The entire work seems carelessly cobbled together. The efforts to deliver a real hit quickly run into the sand due to Kay's consistently boring lyrics with monotonous presentation. There is no banger like "I need a Girl Part 3" or "Style und das Geld" on "Rich Kidz". But you can be content with a carelessly performed part by Farid Bang as well as kitschy love songs or crooked hooks by Emory ”. At the end of the review, the editor recommends the reader to read NWA by Shindy and Hallo Monaco by Capo .
The e-zine laut.de , which rated the album with 2 out of 5 possible stars, also found that Kay One was "pretty wasteful" with his talent on the album . In addition, the editors criticized the thematic inconsistency of the album and criticized the frequent presence of Emory, who is represented on eight songs, in the more emotional songs on the album. Meanwhile, the titles Helal Money and Prince Kay One were identified as “bright spots” . Even further in his criticism went the backspin Hip Hop magazine , the Rich Kidz which gave the lowest possible rating 1 out of 5 points, and work collectively as an album filled with "completely reasonable freed texts, blunt disco sounds and tracks, all of which can hardly be are different because of their insignificance ” .
Sometimes the album received more positive reviews in news magazines. Die Welt praised it in the highest tones: "It's called" Rich Kidz "and is not only a 60-minute verbal prod that has become sound, but also one of the best German rap albums of the year". The album brings German hip-hop back onto the dance floor: “Behind the driving bass hides a pure club sound that playfully breaks the shackles of strict German hip-hop iconography. Suddenly German rap can also take place on the dance floor ”. In the report, the album is described as the best release by Kay One to date: “The 17 tracks sound with a few interruptions [...] overall so fresh and homogeneous that Prince Kay One has clearly presented his previous masterpiece here. A delayed summer album that should save you through the winter well ”. The guest musicians would even bring the album to an international level: "With feature guests like Melody Thornton from the Pussycat Dolls and a revamped production, the album even reaches an international level".
- Reactions from other artists
The rapper Bushido rated the album on the Amazon website . He had "already thought in advance" that the album would "develop in a different direction". For him, the album only contains “put on attitudes and senseless hymns of praise to all brands that you need to show that you have money”. He also described it as a "very bad attempt to represent something that you are not".
The rapper Silla also gave a customer review on Amazon. He criticized that the album contained the song I hate it to love you , as Silla had already released a song with the same title years earlier: “Nice try, but unfortunately it doesn't come up against my version. So my thumb is clearly going down ”. In addition, the phrase “Buy my new album in 2014 and let yourself be inspired again” alludes to the fact that Kay One would be inspired by Silla.
Baba Saad reacted in the form of a so-called "disstrack". In Song Jim Knopf he accuses Kay One, the beat of the published as video songs Sooner to have used without permission. He also dubbed Kay One's singer Emory as a "son of a bitch". The song Earlier appeared on the album Rich Kidz in a different version.
