Emyr Humphreys

Emyr Humphreys (born April 15, 1919 in Prestatyn , Flintshire ) is a Welsh writer.

Life

Humphreys was born the son of a teacher. He studied history at the University College of Wales at Aberystwyth and at University College in Bangor . Emyr Humphreys worked as a farm hand . After the Second World War he worked as a teacher and from 1955 to 1965 as a director for the BBC . From 1965 to 1972 he worked as a lecturer in drama at University College in Bangor. From 1972 he worked as a freelance writer and critic.

In addition to novels, Emyr Humphreys published libretti , plays, short stories and poems. He mainly wrote his works in English , but also partly in Welsh .

He received the Somerset Maugham Award for his novel Hear and Forgive , published in 1952 . The 1958 novel A Toy Epic received the Hawthornden Prize .
