Engelbert Graf

Engelbert Graf (born June 14, 1922 in Steinheim , † April 19, 2007 in Tübingen ) was a German pharmacist and professor at the University of Tübingen . He was director of the Pharmaceutical Institute at the University of Tübingen and full professor for pharmaceutical technology .

Life

After graduating from high school, Graf began a two-year pharmacist internship. In Darmstadt he passed the preliminary pharmaceutical examination. He was then drafted into the Wehrmacht, where he was taken prisoner.

In 1942 he was assigned to study pharmacy in Frankfurt am Main , later in Jena . Three years later he completed his studies with the state examination at the University of Jena . He then did his doctorate at the University of Würzburg with Professor Diezel. In 1957, Graf completed his habilitation on the subject of “About the alkaloids of the yew”. He succeeded in elucidating the structure of taxines A and B from Taxus baccata , the European yew tree.

From 1960 he worked at the University of Tübingen. There he became head of the galenic department. From 1967 to 1988 he was full professor for pharmaceutical technology at the University of Tübingen. In addition to the main lecture in pharmaceutical technology, he also read lectures on homeopathy and the history of pharmacy .

Graf published over 120 publications and supervised over 50 completed doctorates. He was a member of the Pharmacopoeia Commission for the German Pharmacopoeia (DAB 7 to DAB 9). He was also involved in the creation of the first homeopathic pharmacopoeia in Germany (HAB1). Until 1992 he headed the analysis committee of this pharmacopoeia commission. He was also a member of the expert committee for standard approvals of the Federal Health Office.
