Engin Altinova

Engin Altinova (born May 20, 1980 in Erzincan , Turkey ) is a German documentary filmmaker who lives in Berlin .

Life

Engin Altinova was born in 1980 in Erzincan in Eastern Turkey as the fourth of five children. Shortly before his first birthday, his mother left for Germany with him and his siblings. His father had lived there for six years and worked underground in Hamm (Westphalia).

Engin Altinova spent his childhood and youth in Wiesloch in northern Baden and in Heidelberg . He was active in various local sports clubs for years. At the age of 16, Engin Altinova and his partner Christian Kraski from the Erlkönig band set up an analogue music studio , and he earned the money with a vacation job in a large kitchen.

After leaving school to Engin Alto Inova dedicated as golfers the competitive sports , by the way, he completed an internship in the office of the golf club Glashofen-Neusaß. He then trained as a state-certified business assistant at the Julius Springer School and as a banker at the Sparkasse Heidelberg. In 2004 he founded a music CD distribution company which he later expanded to become The Filming Engine media production company . From 2008 he lived in Frankfurt am Main , where Altinova worked as managing director of several restaurants

In addition to various underground projects, Engin Altinova produced a music report from 2005, including the beatboxers Killa Kela and Scratch from the band The Roots . In 2009 he published his most important work to date, the documentary In the Lab . It is about the influence of hip-hop on youth culture in Germany. The film is used as teaching material in social studies lessons in several federal states and has been rated by the state media center as valuable for use in school lessons. Engin Altinova interviewed New York DJ Premier , musicians Sido , Olli Banjo , Curse , Kool Savas , Jeyz , Tone , Milan Martelli , Pal One , Lordz of Fitness and DJ Rafik for In the Lab . During the shooting, Altinova was supported by the director and cameraman Marian Czura , among others .

In 2010 Engin Altinova produced the making-of for the Franco-German rap album La Connexion . In 2011 he was involved in several programs for the Turkish state broadcaster TRT Müzik with the author Salih Tastan. In 2012 he started shooting his second documentary about a trip through East Africa with the skateboard legend Titus Dittmann .
