Ernst Enno Russell (born May 25, 1869 in Papenburg , † September 23, 1949 in Hohenborn (Zierenberg) ) was a German banker.

Life

He was the son of Emil Russell and his wife Angela, nee Beckering.

After graduating from Wilhelmsgymnasium in Berlin , Russell served as a one-year volunteer with Field Artillery Regiment No. 15 in Strasbourg from October 1, 1887 . After two weeks he became active in the Corps Palaio-Alsatia . In the Year of Three Emperors recipiert he did not want to stay in Strasbourg to his military service. On October 29, 1888, he was allowed to leave for study purposes. He received the ribbon by FCC resolution on July 21, 1923. Russell learned the banking business at Norddeutsche Bank in Hamburg, at William Brandt's Sons and Co in London and in Paris. In 1893 he embarked on an almost two-year trip around the world, which took him to the World's Columbian Exposition and the Disconto-Gesellschaft's important foreign engagements in South America, New Guinea and East Asia. He joined the Disconto-Gesellschaft in 1895 and was granted power of attorney in 1899 . As deputy director and one of then (1902) six business owners, he was responsible for the extensive branch network and human resources. The numerous mergers in the interwar period , the German inflation from 1914 to 1923 and the global economic crisis made his area of ​​responsibility particularly demanding. The number of employees rose from 500 to more than 7,000 during his time as the owner of the business. As a member of the supervisory board, Russell represented the interests of Disconto-Gesellschaft at several mortgage banks , including the Preussische Boden-Credit-Aktien-Gesellschaft in Berlin and the Deutsche Hypothekenbank in Meiningen. He was chairman of the supervisory board at the Saxon machine factory in Chemnitz. When the Disconto-Gesellschaft merged with Deutsche Bank in October 1929, Russell left the management team. Until 1941 he was deputy chairman of the supervisory board .
