Grace Gregory

Grace Gregory (born 1910 in Missouri , † November 14, 1985 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American production designer who was nominated for an Oscar for best production design twice in her career . In the course of her twenty-five years of activity, she created the sets for over 350 film and television productions.

life and career

Grace Gregory Jones, born in the state of Missouri in 1910, began her work as a production designer in Hollywood in 1947. During her career she worked for virtually all film genres. Until the mid-1950s, Gregory created the set designs for films such as Love Rush on Capri , When the Marabunta Threats , Elephant Path , White Christmas or The Bridges of Toko-Ri . At the Academy Awards in 1955 , she was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Production Design category for the film drama A Country Girl starring Grace Kelly along with Hal Pereira , Roland Anderson and Sam Comer .

She then worked for cinema productions such as We Are Not Angels , On a Day Like Any Other , The Mount of Temptation , Storm Over Persia , The Devil's Curve or Houseboat . In 1964 she was nominated again for an Oscar for the cinema production In Love with a Stranger with Natalie Wood and Steve McQueen in the leading roles. Again together with Pereira, Anderson and Comer.

In addition to her work in film, she also created the sets for 323 episodes of the television series Bonanza between 1959 and 1972 .
