When the Marabunta threatens (in the original The Naked Jungle ) is an American horror film by director Byron Haskin from 1954. The script of this George Pal production is based on the story of Leiningen's fight with the ants (published 1937) by the German- Austrian author Carl Stephenson , who is said to be based on a true story. The film was later shown on German television under the title Der nackte Dschungel .

Through his brother's mediation, Christopher Leiningen married a woman without ever having seen her. She makes her way to South America to him on his cocoa - plantation visit, which he built up to very hard, years of work. The independent, beautiful woman encounters a cold, unapproachable man. Even her willingness to tackle leaves Leiningen cold, he rejects her. Joanna comes to terms with this and decides to take the next ship that takes her to the United States.

Leiningen wants to drop them off at the next port, but they find a body that has been gnawed off to the bone. The dead was killed by aggressive wandering ants. The army of ants, which is said to be 15 kilometers long and two kilometers wide, is called the marabunta and is heading towards the plantation. Leiningen refuses to give up his property, for which he worked so hard, even though he knows how dangerous and deadly the army of ants is, which kills all life and which no one can stop, although many have already tried. He decides to fend off the ants attack. Joanna helps him bravely and determinedly. When the army of ants is finally repulsed with great sacrifice, Leiningen changes his mind about his wife, who is now staying with him.
