Enrico Poitschke (born August 25, 1969 in Görlitz ) is a former German cyclist .

Profile and career

He was active as a professional since 2000 (until 2008). He especially stood out as a strong and disciplined all-rounder. As captain, Enrico Poitschke led the Wiesenhof team to important successes.

Poitschke began his career at RSV Niesky and SG Wismut Gera . In 1996 he won the renowned Hungarian cycling race Grand Prix Cycliste de Gemenc . He won in 2001 a. a. the Norwegian tour “Grand Prix Ringerike” and wore the yellow jersey twice. He also won a stage of the peace drive . At the side of Jens Heppner , his former club mate from Gera, Poitschke led the Wiesenhof team to further important successes in 2003. After finishing sixth in “Around the Henninger Tower”, Poitschke came fifth in the Peace Tour.

In 2003 he won the classic “ Rund um die Hainleite ”, where he defeated Jan Ullrich . Last season, Poitschke came second in the world's largest cycle race, the “Argus Tour”, and came fifth in the overall ranking of the Saxon Tour. During the Hessen Tour in 2004, Poitschke tested positive for betamethasone and received a warning plus a time penalty . He had not submitted the medical prescription ("Therapeutic Use Exemption" = TUE) in time.

In 2006 Poitschke strengthened the newly founded Milram team with Erik Zabel . In 2008 he ended his career.

In 2009 he was the sporting director of the newly founded Team NetApp .

He is currently the sporting director of the German team Bora-hansgrohe, which was founded at the end of 2016 .

Professional

Since 2013 Poitschke has been running a sportswear shop with a focus on cycling in Leipzig together with Andre Schulze.

Private

Poitschke is married and has one son.
