Enrico Tamberlik , also Enrico Tamberlick , Enrico Danieli and Nikita Torma ; (Born March 16, 1820 in Rome , † March 13, 1889 in Paris ) was an Italian opera singer (tenor).

Life

Tamberlik studied in Rome and Naples a. a. with Giacomo Guglielmi and sang Arnoldo in Gioacchino Rossini's Guglielmo Tell and Gennaro in Gaetano Donizettid Lucrezia Borgia at the Accademia Filarmonica Romana from 1837–38 . He first appeared as a concert singer and made his debut in 1841 at the Teatro al Fondo in Milan - still under the pseudonym Enrico Danieli - as Tebaldo in Vincenzo Bellini's I Capuleti ei Montecchi . From 1842 he also appeared at the Teatro san Carlo (debut with Luigi Bordeses I quindici ). He made his foreign debut in 1845 at the Teatro S. Carlos in Lisbon in the opera I Lombardi .

Engagements in Madrid (until 1847) and Barcelona followed, and between 1850 and 1864 he appeared regularly at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden , and at the same time at the Mariinsky Theater and the Italian Opera in Saint Petersburg. In 1862 he sang Don Alvaro at the Bolshoi Kamennyi Theater in the presence of Giuseppe Verdi in the premiere of his opera La forza del destino . During a performance at the Moscow Bolshoi Theater in Verdi's Il trovatore in 1870, Tamerlik was whistled, which prompted Tchaikovsky to write an open letter in his defense. In 1882 Tamberlik ended his career as a singer.

Tamberlik was considered a stylish singer with high musicality, dramatic expression, acting talent and a great stage presence. His extensive and varied repertoire - he sang well over 100 leading roles during his career - included u. a. Ernesto in Donizetti's Don Pasquale , Robert in Robert le diable and Jean de Leyde in Le prophète by Giacomo Meyerbeer , Lionel in Friedrich von Flotow's Martha , Manrico in Il trovatore and the Prince in Rigoletto von Verdi and Florestan in Ludwig van Beethoven's Fidelio .
