Entrepreneurs du Monde is a non-governmental organization founded in France in 1988 . The organization is represented in ten West African , Caribbean and Asian countries and aims to support microfinance programs with a social focus, so that disadvantaged women and men can be helped to pursue an income generating activity.

history

The organization was founded in Colombes , Hauts-de-Seine , France in 1998 by its current director, Franck Renaudin. The organization runs 5 programs to support in the Philippines and India and was only able to exist thanks to the voluntary commitment of its members. In 2003 the activities developed noticeably and a first employee was hired full-time. In November of the same year the head office was relocated to Poitiers (86), France . The main building is shared with another NGO, '' Initiative Développement '', which passed its microfinance programs in Benin , Ghana and Haiti on to Entrepreneurs du Monde in 2004 and 2005 . The organization is developing new programs in the Philippines (2005), India (2006), Cambodia (2006), Vietnam (2007), Mongolia (2008) and Burkina Faso (2008).

The socio-economic approach

In 2009 the organization supported 59,600 microfinance clients . The goal for 2010 is to support even more people with the action programs in the ten countries. The following services are provided for this:

  1. Loan products ( microloans ) that finance small commercial activities in urban and rural areas;
  2. Savings products (micro accounts) to help families manage their budget and anticipate future expenses;
  3. Health microinsurance to reduce the vulnerability of families and not to jeopardize the economic advances that have been made;
  4. Education: economic education (family budget management, profit calculations, etc.); social education (malaria prevention, sex education etc.); practical education (cooking courses, cosmetics, hairstyle, manicure etc.)
  5. Social performance: The poorest customers are looked after by a social worker in urban branches and passed on to specialized organizations that offer additional support.
  6. Social entrepreneurial attitude : to promote certain activities that have a social impact on the one hand and make economic sense on the other. Most of them are innovative activities that have an impact on health (production of spirulina, mare's milk, carabao milk), accommodation (building houses in the Nubian style) or the environment (improved stoves ). Entrepreneurs du Monde tries to focus on structuring an economic chain.
