The Eparchy Our Lady of Deliverance of Newark ( Latin : Eparchia Dominae Nostrae Liberationis Novarcensis Syrorum ) is an eparchy of the Syrian Catholic Church, which is united with the Roman Catholic Church and is based in Newark , New Jersey , in the United States of America .

history

Until 1995, the Syrian Catholic parishes in the United States and Canada were under the jurisdiction of the local bishops of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church .

Pope John Paul II founded the Eparchy with the Apostolic Constitution Principis Apostolorum on November 6, 1995.

In 2009, Bishop Younan was elected Primate of the Syrian Catholic Church and Patriarch of Antioch and all of Eastern Syria. In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Yousif Benham Habash as second local ordinary .
