ε Antliae ( Epsilon Antliae , short ε Ant ) is the second brightest star in the constellation Air Pump . Nevertheless, with its apparent brightness of 4.51 mag , it appears only as a weakly visible object to the naked eye. The distance of this orange giant star of the spectral class K3 and a radius of about 37 solar radii is about 590 light years . With an absolute magnitude likes of -1.78 he would in a standard distance of 32.6 light years (= 10 parsecs ) is significantly brighter than the sun shine when it would also be 10 parsecs from Earth; accordingly, it clearly exceeds the luminosity of the sun, namely around 1300 times. Photometric measurements during the Hipparcos mission indicate that ε Antliae shows slight fluctuations in brightness of 0.0034 mag with a period of 11.07941 days.
