Erasmus Seidel (born November 29, 1594 in Treuenbrietzen , † March 30, 1655 in Berlin ) was a lawyer and statesman in the service of Brandenburg .

Life

Erasmus was the youngest of six sons of the Treuenbrietzen mayor Friederich von Seidel (1554-1599) and his wife Dorothea Thamm.

He attended the schools in Zerbst and the Joachimsthalsche Gymnasium and studied law in Wittenberg from 1616. Five years later he went to Berlin as a legal advisor. From 1628 to 1629 he was Lord Mayor of Berlin . In 1636, Elector Georg Wilhelm appointed him to court chamber judge and war councilor, in 1638 to the secret council of state. In 1655 he wrote a fundamental text on the Jülich succession dispute for the elector .

He was buried in his hereditary funeral in the Nikolaikirche in Berlin . In his memory, a red marble monument with a portrait and coat of arms was placed there.

Erasmus Seidel was married to Magdalena Pasche, a daughter of Mayor Martin Pasche . The eldest son Martin Friedrich (1621–1693) was one of the earliest historians in Brandenburg.
