Erasmus von Venningen

Erasmus von Venningen († 1589 ) was an imperial knight from the left Neidenstein line of the Lords of Venningen . He was electoral Palatinate bailiff in Bretten , court judge in Heidelberg and chief bailiff in Neuenbürg .

Erasmus von Venningen was the son of Conrad von Venningen , Baden councilor and country court master , and Maria von Hirschhorn († after 1556). Erasmus had the following siblings: Christoph († 1545), Württemberg councilor and governor of Vaihingen , Johann Moritz († around 1577), Knight of the Order of St. John , Sebastian, Dorothea, first married to Wolf Greck von Kochendorf and second to Friedrich von Stockheim, and Margaretha, married to Johann Wolf von Bettendorff . Erasmus von Venningen was married to Siguna von Frundsberg. From this marriage came the children Ottheinrich († 1611), Wolf Ulrich († 1599), married to Barbara von Flersheim, Magdalena († 1603), married to Raphael von Helmstatt , and Anna Maria († 1582), married to Franz von Sickingen (1539-1597).

Life

Erasmus von Venningen was a bailiff at the Bretten regional office in the 1540s . He took part in the Reichstag several times as a representative of the Imperial Knighthood: 1547 in Augsburg and 1557 in Speyer . Also in 1557 he is attested as court judge under the Elector Ottheinrich of the Palatinate.

In 1532 he and his brother Christoph inherited their father's property. In 1542 the brothers shared the property.

In 1552, Erasmus von Venningen appointed the Lutheran pastor Daniel Schwahn as local lord in Dühren . The entire Kraichgau nobility followed Luther's teachings. Erasmus became a member of the Upper Council of the Electoral Palatinate in 1559/60. But after Friedrich III. In 1560 in the Electoral Palatinate introduced the new doctrine of the Lord's Supper and the church ceremonies of the Reformed , Erasmus resigned as a convinced Lutheran from the Upper Council of the Electoral Palatinate and resigned his office as court judge. The influence of the Lutherans in the Electoral Palatinate dwindled, they gradually lost their jobs, and Erasmus von Venningen entered the service of Württemberg and in 1569 became chief bailiff at the Oberamt Neuenbürg .
