Erdmann Uhse (born December 1, 1677 in Guben ; died September 5, 1730 in Merseburg ) was a German historian , lexicographer and polyhistor .

Uhse was the son of a craftsman. From 1695 he studied at the University of Leipzig , where he received his doctorate in 1698 as a master of philosophy. In 1711 he became rector of the Merseburg cathedral grammar school and held this position until the end of his life. He was the author and editor of numerous works, especially biographical and historical reference works, which were mainly compiled from other sources. For example, for his Church History of the XVI and XVII. Century extensive use of Veit Ludwig von Seckendorff's Historia Lutheranismi , the Memorabilia ecclesiastica seculi XVII of Andreas Carolus , Johann Wolfgang Jäger's Historia ecclesiastica seculi decimi septimi and Gottfried Arnold's Church and Heretic History.

The well-informed speaker published in 1709 was particularly successful, and in 1727 the ninth edition was published. In this guide and set of rules, Uhse gives examples and samples for speeches on various social occasions in which a gradual departure from courtly rhetoric and an adaptation to bourgeois forms can be seen.
