The Erenik ( Albanian also Ereniku ; Cyrillic Ереник ) is a river in western Kosovo , which rises in the Junik Mountains on the eastern edge of the Prokletije near the border with Albania . The river is 51 kilometers long. The catchment area is 516 square kilometers.
The river rises from Lake Đeravica , a small mountain lake on the south side a little below the summit of Đeravica ( 2656 m. I. J. ), Kosovo's highest mountain. It runs through the Junik Mountains, first to the east, later to the southeast. He steps out of the mountains near the town of Junik. As a result, it flows south along the foot of the mountains. At the height of the town of Gjakova , it gradually turns east again. He passes the city on its southern edge. Around five kilometers southeast of Gjakova it flows into the White Drin near the village of Xërxa .
In the southwest of Gjakova the river is crossed by the Gerber Bridge ( Ura e Tabaket ). The 127 meter long bridge was built in 1771.
Shortly before the estuary, the Schneider Bridge ( Ura e Terzive / Терзијски мост ) crosses the Erenik. This bridge probably dates from the 15th century, but was later expanded and rebuilt by Gjakova's tailors' guild in the 18th century. It is 193 meters long and has eleven arches.
Erenik is also a common given name among the Albanians .
