Erhard Bräunig

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erhard Bräunig (* 17th November 1945 ; †  7. August 2015 at Grevesmühlen ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and member of the state parliament in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania from 1998 to 2001. He was 1993-1994 District Administrator of the district Grevesmuehlen and 2001 until 2008 district administrator of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg . From 1975 to 1977 he was a preliminary IM of the MfS .

Life and work

Bräunig worked as a teacher for sports and civics . After leaving the district administrator, he worked as a clerk in the district's Wirtschaftsfördergesellschaft mbH from September 1, 2008. This employment, which was limited to nine months, was criticized by the opposition CDU as nepotism .

On August 7, 2015, Bräunig died at the age of 69 in a traffic accident on the B105 near Grevesmühlen.

politics

Erhard Bräunig already worked as deputy district administrator in the Grevesmühlen district immediately after 1990. After his election as district administrator, his contacts with the MfS in 1975 and 1977 were discussed in public as early as 1993. He had initially stated that he had "not worked for the MfS". When he later had to give up the activity, the SPD submitted an application against the new district administrator. Bräunig justified himself by stating that his activities were directed not for but against the MfS. With the district reform in 1994 he resigned from office as district administrator.

In the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 1998 , he was directly elected to the state parliament for the state constituency of Northwest Mecklenburg I. In its final report in June 2001, the “Stasi Commission” of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state parliament came to the conclusion that from 1975 to 1977 it had been a preliminary IM of the MfS . However, the cooperation was ended by the MfS because Bräunig revealed himself to the target persons. In 2001 he was elected as district administrator in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg and therefore left the state parliament on August 31, 2001.

The allegations made against Erhard Bräunig because of his connection to the Stasi were then also the subject of an examination procedure on the occasion of the election to the district administrator. The district council's election review committee checked the Stasi files, which contained 37 reports by Erhard Bräunig. While the opposition factions saw confirmation that Erhard Bräunig had spied on friends in Hoyerswerda between 1971 and 1977, the majority of the district assembly consisting of the SPD and PDS saw it differently and confirmed the election.

The Schwerin administrative court considered the election as district administrator to be illegal. The Higher Administrative Court overturned this judgment on appeal.

In 2008 he resigned as district administrator and Birgit Hesse became his successor.

In June 2009 Erhard Bräunig was elected mayor of the Plüschow community .
