Erhard Fietz (born July 23, 1934 in Markneukirchen ; † April 30, 2007 in Zwickau ) was a teacher, musician, conductor, composer and collector of Vogtland melodies.

Life

At the age of 9 he learned to play the violin and later to play the mandolin and guitar. From 1943 he played in the Markneukirchen mandolin club "Harmonie" under the direction of Herold Pöhland and thus found access to works of modern plucked music by Konrad Wölki , Hermann Ambrosius and Kurt Schwaen . He graduated from the Markneukirchen instrument making school and worked in his father's (Horst Fietz) workshop. In 1952 he completed his apprenticeship as a guitar maker. Erhard Fietz studied at the Hochschule für Musik Weimar with Erich Repke (mandolin), Walter Socha (guitar) and Werner Hübschmann (music theory / composition). From 1958 on he taught mandolin, later also clarinet, and music theory at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Zwickau and directed the Institute's plucked orchestra for 40 years. With his plucking quartet he worked for the Leipzig radio for the new plucked music and traditional Vogtland folk music and was also engaged for solo tasks. He was closely associated with the Bund Deutscher Zupfmusiker BDZ, from 1991 to 2003 as President, since 2003 as Honorary President of the BDZ Saxony and was honored in 1998 with the BDZ's Gold Medal of Merit. In 1993 he was a founding member / board member of the Landesjugendzupforchester Sachsen and later became its long-term companion. Numerous compositions, publications and jury activities are the basis of his diverse musical work. Most recently he devoted himself to the work of the Markneukirchen dialect chronicler Johann Heinrich Gläsel . The plucked instrument maker workshop of his father Horst Fietz can be visited since 2006 in the Gerber-Hans-Haus (part of the Musical Instrument Museum) in Markneukirchen.
