Erhard Hexelschneider

Erhard Günter Hexelschneider (born October 10, 1934 in Breslau ; † January 24, 2018 ) was a German Slavist . From 1974 to 1990 he was a professor at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig and full professor for Russian literature (1974–1979) and finally for international cultural and economic relations .

Life

Hexelschneider grew up in Salzwedel , where he completed elementary, elementary and high school. He obtained his Abitur in 1953 at the Goethe High School in Rossleben / Unstrut . He then studied Slavic Studies at the University of Greifswald from 1953 to 1957 , followed by a stay abroad at the Zhdanov State University in Leningrad in 1957/58 . In 1963 he received his PhD from the University of Leipzig under Rudolf Fischer with a thesis on Russian folk poetry. phil. PhD. 1973 followed the doctorate B (habilitation) for Dr. sc. phil. in International Relations, also in Leipzig . Since 1964 Hexelschneider worked there as a lecturer for Russian and Soviet literature. From 1974 to 1979 he worked as a full professor for Russian literature in Leipzig, from 1980 to 1990 for international cultural and economic relations at the Herder Institute of the Karl Marx University, of which he was also director during this period.

After the fall of the Wall , Hexelschneider was dismissed from his teaching post on December 31, 1991 because of “unsuitability for the public service” and from then on worked as a freelance journalist and book author in Leipzig a. a. with numerous articles in publications of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Saxony and Thuringia . His main research interests are the Russian literature of the 18th and 19th centuries. Century and the German-Russian, especially Saxon-Russian cultural relations.
