Eric Alexander (born April 14, 1988 in Pittsburgh , United States ) is an American football player who is used as a midfielder . He is currently under contract with Houston Dynamo .

Career

Club career

During his teens, Eric Alexander attended Portage Central High School , where he played football for the high school national team. Here he stood out for his above-average performance. In the further course he attended Indiana University Bloomington , where he was also active for the selection team. There Alexander came to a total of 91 missions, in which he scored twelve goals and prepared 13 more.

From 2006 Alexander played with various clubs in the USL Premier Development League : first with Kalamazoo Kingdom , then in 2007 with West Michigan Edge and from 2008 to 2009 with Kalamazoo Outrage .

In 2010 he finally made the leap into North American professional football by being selected and signed by FC Dallas at the MLS SuperDraft . He played his first game on March 27 against Houston Dynamo and scored his first goal on August 14, 2010 against DC United . Overall, Alexander played in the 2010 and 2011 seasons in 39 regular season games and two playoff games for FC Dallas.

On August 9, 2011, Alexander moved from Dallas to the Portland Timbers , where he played a total of 30 times in the remaining games of the 2011 season and the 2012 season. However, he did not manage to score a goal for the Portland Timbers.

On February 11, 2013, Eric Alexander joined the New York Red Bulls . There he was able to establish himself as an important regular player in the 2013 season and was used in all 34 games of the regular season. He did the same in the 2014 season . In 2013 Alexander played two games in the playoffs, and in 2014 five.

At the end of January 2015, he and Ambroise Oyongo moved to the Canadian league rivals Montreal Impact .

National team

On January 22, 2011 Alexander played for the US national soccer team for the first time when he was substituted on in the friendly against the Chilean selection . After that there were initially no further national team appearances for Alexander.

In 2014 he was nominated again for the selection. In the friendly against the South Korean national team on February 1, 2014 , Alexander played his second game for the United States.

Private

Alexander holds a degree in finance from the Kelley School of Business , a faculty at Indiana University Bloomington.
