Erich Franz (politician)

Erich Franz (born April 28, 1919 in Rudolstadt ) is a former German politician ( NDPD ). From 1963 to 1976 he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

Franz, son of a worker, attended elementary school and vocational school. From 1933 to 1937 he worked as a mechanic. During the Second World War he was drafted into the Wehrmacht for military service and became a prisoner of war . He was released in 1945 and went back to his hometown.

Franz worked as a mechanic again from 1945 to 1947 and as a freelance demolition specialist from 1947 to 1951. He joined the National Democratic Party of Germany (NDPD) in 1949 and became a member of the Rudolstadt local committee, the Rudolstadt district committee and the Gera district committee of the NDPD. He became a member of the Rudolstadt district council and was deputy chairman of the district council's transport committee from 1949 to 1951. In 1951 he joined the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB) and the Free German Youth (FDJ). He attended the teacher training institute in Naumburg in 1951 and in Magdeburg in 1956 . From 1951 to 1954 he was employed as a training instructor and from 1954 to 1957 as training manager at VEB Chemiefaserwerk Schwarza "Wilhelm Pieck" in Rudolstadt. From 1957 to 1969 he was director of the company vocational school and head of the qualification department of the man-made fiber plant. From 1958 to 1961 he was a member of the FDJ district leadership in Gera. He completed a distance learning course at the engineering school for chemistry "Friedrich Wöhler" in Leipzig from 1958 to 1963 as a chemical engineering economist. From 1970 he was director of the company vocational school and head of department in the VEB Chemiefaserkombinat Schwarza .

From 1963 to 1976 he was a member of the NDPD parliamentary group of the People's Chamber, in which he was from 1963 to 1967 a member of the committee for popular education and from 1967 to 1976 a member of the committee for labor and social policy. From 1964 he was deputy chairman of the sub-commission for people's education of the commission for ideology and culture of the party executive committee of the NDPD and from 1966 chairman of the NDPD-Kreisverband Rudolstadt.
