Erich Graff

Erich Graff (Latinized: Ericus Graffius ; born April 10, 1607 in Marburg ; † May 4, 1683 ibid) was a German law scholar and university professor .

Life

Graff was the son of a pharmacist . He graduated from the Marburg pedagogy and began studying law at the University of Marburg from Easter 1623 . He also attended lectures in philosophy . After completing his studies, in 1631 he accepted a position as court master at the Privy Council and Chamber President Johann Caspar Freiherr von Dörnberg. As in the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War , the abbey of Fulda fell to Hesse, he was in 1632 by Landgrave William V of Hesse-Kassel as assessor used the office in Fulda. On 24 March 1634 he was with the dissertation De ineunda rei debitae aestimatione at the University of Giessen to Dr. jur. PhD.

Graff followed in 1634 the call as a full professor of law at the University of Kassel . In 1638 and 1650 he was rector at the university. After this was reintegrated into the University of Marburg, he received the third full professorship in law in 1653. He was also appointed to the Princely Council and used as a university syndicus. After the rejection of an appointment as the first professor of law at the newly founded University of Duisburg , he received the second professorship of law in Marburg in 1655 and finally the first professorship in 1660. In 1654, 1671 and 1678 he was dean of the law faculty and in 1655 and 1674 rector of the university.

Graff was in 1656, 1658 and 1663 a deputy of the University of Marburg at the state parliaments in Kassel, from 1656 a member of the commission for the codification of Hessian land law and in 1663 a court judge. On August 20, 1672, he was also Vice Chancellor of the University of Marburg.
