Erich Klose (born February 23, 1926 in Opole , Upper Silesia ; † July 20, 2019 in Minden ) was a German handball player and coach. In the 1960s and 1970s he was instrumental in the success of TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen and TuS Nettelstedt .

career

After the Second World War , the native of Upper Silesia stayed in Minden because he found work and accommodation on a local farm. He met his wife Helene, whose father was a co-founder of the TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen club . After playing field handball in the military , he decided to continue his hobby at GWD. He coached the club's youth teams and played as a left runner for the men's team.

In September 1956, he was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident and had to end his active career. After a long time in the hospital, he returned as a coach in 1958 and formed a team that was German runner-up four times in the following years: in 1962 , 1964 and 1965 on the field and also in 1965 in the hall.

"Erich Klose led GWD to the top of German field handball and was the pioneer of the golden generation."

- Horst Bredemeier : In: Mindener Tageblatt .

In 1966 he moved to the upper division VfL Bad Nenndorf , with whom he missed the qualification for the Bundesliga. In November he was also coach of TuS Eintracht Minden in the indoor handball East Westphalia League. After Klose also took over the district division TuS Nettelstedt in 1968 , Eintracht Minden separated from him in February 1969. With Nettelstedt he made the march through to the second highest division - the regional league. He also became German runner-up for the fifth time. In the final of the German field handball championship in 1975 , TuS Nettelstedt lost with 14:15 against TSG Haßloch . After that he was still employed by the clubs SC Herford and TuS Minderheide .

Klose has been a member of the TSV GWD Minden since the club was re-established on October 21, 1945. On December 1, 2016, he was made an honorary member.

He died on July 20, 2019 in Minden.
