Erich Schosser

Erich Schosser (born September 7, 1924 in Munich ; † September 27, 2013 ) was a German politician ( CSU ) and monument conservator .

Schosser attended high school. During the Second World War he was drafted into the Wehrmacht as an infantryman , where he was seriously wounded and in 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Americans. In 1946 he made up his Abitur and then studied newspaper studies, philosophy and arts subjects at the University of Munich . In 1951 the doctorate followed . During his studies, Schosser trained as a journalist, worked for several years as a freelance journalist, especially for radio, and at the same time made extensive historical studies, mainly on Eastern Europe and Asia . In 1965 he became an editor at Bayerischer Rundfunk . From 1973 he was chairman of the State Monument Council and was considered the father of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act . Until his death, Erich Schosser was honorary chairman of the Bavarian State Monument Council and a member of the board of trustees of the Bavarian People's Foundation.

From 1966 to 1994 Schosser sat in the Bavarian state parliament , at times as a directly elected member of the Munich-Nymphenburg district .

In memory of the joint work in the field of monument protection and monument preservation, Schosser's widow founded the Dr. Erich and Elisabeth Schosser Foundation as a dependent foundation under the umbrella of the Bavarian Cultural Heritage Initiative.
